THE RUSTY HOOK: FAQ

THE RUSTY HOOK, A PLAYA DEL CARMEN FISHING CHARTER NEAR COCO BEACH

FAQ
We recently upgraded our boat and it now features a enclosed bathroom at the front of the boat.
You can book via the internet using our contact form or by sending us a message on Facebook. Alternatively you can find us at Coco Beach by asking for Captain Tolete (Jorge’s local nickname).
We require a deposit in order to reserve certain dates. Your deposit is fully refundable when: you cancel 7 days prior to your trip or we are unable to go out due to bad weather.
Please pay in cash on the morning of the trip. Our prices are in dollars, but we also accept Mexican Pesos. The price in pesos depends on current exchange rates and we will be happy to inform you of this on request. If you secured your dates online and paid a deposit the remaining amount is due on the morning of the trip. Please add 6% to any payments made through PayPal.
Owner Jorge will always take out the trips with an assistant. If in exceptional circumstances he is unable to do so we will always try to contact you in advance. The trips are private unless you specifically request otherwise. Sorry, we do not offer shared trips.
We provide water, pepsi and beer. If you would like us to supply anything different or you think you will be particularly thirsty (!!) please let us know in advance so we can deal with your request. You are very welcome to bring your own drinks and snacks on the boat. However just a warning - bananas are thought to bring bad luck to fisherman so you may wish to consider a different fruit !! The boat has plenty of shade but the sun can be very strong so hats and sun cream are recommended.
Our boat is kept at Coco Beach which is a natural harbour formed by a small reef. This means that the boats are more sheltered. The boat will be tied up at the beach to pick you up and has access by steps making entry into the boat easy. Each boat in Playa del Carmen only has permission to pick up and drop off from one beach so we are not able to pick up from other spots. Coco Beach is easily accessible by taxi. Click here to see a map of Coco Beach. For those familiar with Mamitas beach it is the next beach down.
We welcome both experienced fisherman and novices alike. We can adjust the fishing depending on experience and what seems to be biting. Spending some time snorkeling is a perfect combination with fishing, especially for the longer trips of 6 or 8 hrs. We do provide snorkeling equipment, or use your own if you prefer.
There is no need to bring any fishing equipment, we provide everything necessary to land that big fish!
Owner Jorge has lived in England for six years so is bilingual in Spanish and English.
Sometimes if the weather is bad the harbor master will not allow any boats to go out. In this situation unfortunately you will not be able to go fishing. Although we will try to contact you often we do not know in advance. If we have to cancel your trip we will try to reschedule your trip for another convenient day.
Children are welcome on the boat, however even though we do provide lifejackets we would recommend that all children are able to swim.
If you are lucky enough to catch a Marlin or Sailfish, then these are catch and release fish. Take a photo and then we put them back in the water. Any other fish can be taken back to shore and if you would like to take them with you then please ask and we can clean them. Some of the local restaurants will cook them for you.
The Juniper is a 25 feet Proline walk around. There is a sun awning and padded seating area as well as a fish fighting chair. She has a 115 four stoke Yamaha motor which is extremely quiet and produces no petrol fumes. For pictures please visit our gallery!
